Collection: Silk Yarns

Silk yarns are the ultimate in luxury fibers. Silk adds strength, shine, and decadent softness to any high quality yarn. This sumptuous fiber on its own makes drop-dead gorgeous scarves, shawls, and wraps, but more practically can provide lightweight insulating properties to any yarn. Silk is a protein fiber, like wool, and is produced from the cocoons of silk producing caterpillars. The fiber itself is made of the protein of the caterpillar's cocoon, which is created during its metamorphosis to a moth. There are various species of silk producing moths, and the silk each produces has unique properties. From shiny, cultivated mulberry silk to the wild-harvested eri silk there are a variety of silks available to meet the needs of knitters.
